Meet our BESTSELLING Tallow Oil

This. Oil. Is. Magic.

Truly sensational. Smells heavenly of rose and vanilla, feels like silk melting to perfection & leaves your skin nourished and the smoothest it’s been in months! *Especially smooth when applied post body brush with your skin still slightly damp (I love spritzing any hydrosol on right before applying, too!)

I simply cannot express my deep love for herbal infused tallow. I’m sure some of you are thinking this "beef fat on your skin" thing is a little wild and faddish… however, are you aware that this is what your ancestors used to nourish, heal and protect their skin? After all, we are animals and I find it important to note that the majority plant fats contain very little saturated fats and simply do not have the same amount of imperative nutrients necessary for skin health. At least 50% of our cellular membrane is saturated fat, giving it its stiffness for proper function. Monounsaturated fats make up the majority of the remaining fats within the cell membrane, followed by a proportionally small amount of polyunsaturated fats. “Healthy, toned skin cells with sufficient saturated and monounsaturated fats would undoubtedly make for healthy, toned skin.” It’s wild to note that tallow fat is 50-55% saturated fat (just like our cell membranes) and the rest is monounsaturated. With this knowledge, it makes clear sense to me that tallow is extremely compatible with our cellular biology and makes for healthy, nourished skin! “Modern-day research confirms the traditional wisdom of our ancestors.” Tallow is truly a SUPERFOOD for your skin. Let me tell you why…

Tallow contains fat-soluble Vitamins A, D, E, and K - all of which are extremely nourishing for the skin. This particular combination of beneficial vitamins is only found together in animal fats.

Tallow also contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which has been shown to have anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects. It’s also a rich source of palmitoleic acid, which contains natural antimicrobial properties while protecting against oxidative damage by encouraging the development of new skin cells. Furthermore, there is some research showing that palmitoleic acid may increase the synthesis of elastin and collagen (these are proteins that keep your skin youthful, strong and plump).

Stearic acids make up about half of tallow’s saturated fat and is the optimal source of stearic acid, followed by butter and cocoa fat. Stearic and oleic acids are found in the outer layer of our skin and in our sebum. Stearic acid repairs and improves the barrier of our skin while oleic acid supports the penetration of nutrients into our skin!

NEXT LEVEL TALLOW is to ensure you’re sourcing from pasture raised, grass-fed and finished cows for optimal nutrient density. Rendering is easy and can be done at home in several ways! Here at slow, we render with the wet method, making our tallow odorless and silky smooth. Lastly, infusing herbs into tallow is truly the icing on the cake. Tallow makes an excellent medium for extracting many constituents from plant material that benefit your beautiful skin. Here at slow, we use a double-extraction method, similar to our oil infusions when infusing tallow. Our herbal-infused tallow is just as potent as our herbal-infused oils and makes an excellent base for our tallow balms and oils. You will not be disappointed. Soft & nourished skin is guaranteed!
